Lot of Three (3) Vintage Lighters.
Included are the following lighters, each of which came from the estate of a collector:
Vintage 1966 Zippo Lighter, Brushed Chrome. A nice piece to own because it represents the core, classic design that made the brand famous. This lighter is a regular-sized model (approx. 2-1/8’ x 1-1/2” x 7/16”) with an indented (canned) bottom. Zippo utilized canned bottoms on regular windproof lighters to add structural rigidity to the case. On the underside bottom of the lighter is the classic italicized Zippo script logo name flanked by four vertical lines (IIII) on both the left and right. 1966 was the very first year Zippo introduced vertical line codes to replace the previous dot system. A total of 8 vertical lines indicates the earliest release in that specific coding sequence. The bottom portion of the lighter is entirely plain brushed chrome without any specific logo, military insignia, or engraved artwork. The brushed chrome is in a horizontal pattern. The bottom of the lighter case doesn’t have a patent number on it. However, one side of the silver insert explicitly shows Pat. 2517191. This patent number and other stamped text reads vertically/stacked rather than horizontally across the bottom like modern ones. Therefore, the insert is period-correct.
This lighter fires properly, and still has a pretty strong, crisp “click” when you snap it open. It is in overall good used physical/cosmetic condition. The case has some surface scratches as well as a couple indentations. The insert has wearing to its surfaces.
Zippo Click Lighter. Made by Zippo in August 2005. Has a shiny red finish with “Zippo Click” in the center circle on front, with what looks like sun rays shining out from the center. It has been used and has a fair amount of surface wear. It fires properly and has a strong, crisp click when you snap it open.
Vintage Camel Lighter. I don’t see any markings to indicate the maker or the year of production. It has a polished chrome finish. It is a slimmer model measuring approximately 1-5/16” W x 2-1/2” H x 5/16” D. It has been used. It fires properly, and makes a nice click when the lid is opened. It does have a lot of light surface scratching on its case.
